Global Peace International is two years old as an organization. In practice it is far older — it carries forward a lineage of accountability that spans a century.
Our founder and CEO, Ara Khachig Manoogian, is the grandson of Shahan Natalie, the mastermind of Operation Nemesis — the campaign that brought the principal organizers of the Armenian Genocide to account after they had been condemned to death by court, fled, and continued their violence against Armenians. That inheritance is not symbolic. It is a standard: those who commit crimes against a people should not outrun accountability.
He has spent his own career meeting that standard in person. Living on the ground in Armenia and Artsakh as a civilian-chosen ombudsman, he stood between ordinary citizens and a corrupted state, helping people facing unjust prosecution uphold their rights. This record was earned in some of the most corrupt and dangerous systems on earth — places where this kind of work is stopped by the most unlawful means. If it can be done there, it can be done anywhere, including in the more “civilized” governments that assume they are beyond scrutiny. And the impact is real enough that power responds: our evidence has reached the highest levels of the United States government, and the Azerbaijani state has gone so far as to run a disinformation campaign to discredit us. Both are a measure of the difference this work makes.
Most of our current projects center on Armenian issues — but this is not a cause for Armenians alone. The forces we confront are universal: human trafficking, official corruption, the abuse of power, and states that ignore the treaties and conventions they signed. Fixing them in one place strengthens the rule of law everywhere, and the precedents we set protect people who will never hear our name. This is work that every human has a stake in, and one that everyone benefits from funding — because when accountability holds in the hardest places, it holds for all of us.
And our mandate is not tied to any one country. We hold lawmakers, governments, and officials to account wherever the law is being broken — not only in the United States. That means wherever you live, the work you fund can reach into your own country and your own government. Nonprofit status limits how hard an organization can push — how directly it can name names and demand accountability. We refused those limits so our work answers to its mission, not to an exemption.
