Our new home for news, analysis and commentary — and the first place on this site where you can respond to what we publish. Here is how the News Room works, and how comments are handled.
Global Peace International has published research, books and press releases for some time now. What we have not had is a single place where those threads come together in the order they happened — and, just as importantly, a place where you can answer back.
That is what the News Room is for.
What you will find here
The News Room collects our news, analysis and commentary in date order, newest first. Some entries will be short notes on something that has just happened. Others will be longer pieces of analysis that sit alongside our white papers and our press releases rather than replacing them. Where an article draws on one of our formal publications, it will link to it, so you can always go and read the underlying document yourself.
Our subjects do not change: the roots of conflict, the accountability of those who hold power, the rights of people who have been displaced or written out of the record, and the practical work of turning recognition into remedy.
Why we opened comments
An organization that asks for dialogue should be willing to have one. Until now, responding to something we published meant sending an email that nobody else would ever see. From today, each article in the News Room carries a discussion below it, and considered disagreement is as welcome as agreement.
We would rather host a difficult conversation in the open than a comfortable one in private.
Who can comment
The discussion is open to members of the Global Armenian Registry. If you are already registered, sign in using the “Member sign in” link at the top of any page and the comment box will appear beneath each article. If you are not registered yet, join the Registry — it is free — and your voice joins the conversation.
We built the discussion around our members rather than opening it to the whole internet, and the reason is simple: the opinion of our members matters to us. They are the people this organization works for. An anonymous comment box fills up with strangers arguing past one another; a members’ room is a place where people stand behind what they say, and where taking the time to say something considered is worth the effort.
How moderation works
Every comment submitted here is read by a moderator before it becomes visible to anyone else. Nothing is published automatically. In practice this means your comment will not appear the moment you press send; we aim to review submissions within one business day.
We take this approach deliberately. We write about histories that people carry personally, and about events that are still being argued over. Open, unmoderated comment sections on subjects like ours tend to fill with abuse and drive out exactly the people whose perspective is most worth hearing. Reviewing everything first is slower, and it is the price of keeping the discussion worth reading.
What we publish: argument, correction, testimony, questions, and criticism of us. What we do not publish: attacks on people rather than ideas, ethnic or religious hatred, threats, the personal details of private individuals, and spam. Our full comment policy sets this out in detail.
If we decline to publish a comment, that is not a judgement on the person who wrote it, and you are always welcome to write to us directly at info@globalpeaceinternational.com.
Tell us what to cover
The News Room will be shaped in part by what our members ask for. If there is a subject you believe deserves attention — a case that has gone unexamined, a document that should be public, a question our research has not answered — leave it in the comments below or send it to us. We read everything.
